Can you select to set the base station up manually then create a new network instead of joining or extending one? Create a new network if possible with the same network name (SSID) and password as the BT hub, then select the network tab in airport utility and set the routing mode to off (bridge), then move the Ethernet cable to any of the other network ports.
This should mean the AirPort Extreme creates a roaming wifi network (device joins the base station with the strongest signal) but doesn't create a new private IP network and separate your devices.
