hi GIlly The easiest way is to plug the USB cable into the phone and Mac, then open Photos (on 10.10.3) or iPhoto (earlier than 10.10.3) and click on Import.
You could also set up PhotoStream on the phone and computer but that won’t transfer movies, just photos. Once set up it is very convenient though, it just uploads your photos to iCloud and back to the computer from there automatically.
