i’d restart the powerline adapters (both of them). The self-assigned IP address
most likely means that the Mac’s sensing a connection on the ethernet cable,
but it’s not getting to the BT Hub to be given an IP address.

In my continuing struggles, I have fixed the BT Hub so that I can now access
the internet, but some devices and features aren't working. I can't access my
WD My Book Live properly and my iMac no longer connects with my network by
ethernet. The message reads .. "Connected Ethernet has a self-assigned IP
address and will not be able to connect to the Internet." I can recall coming
accross this before but can't remember what I did to fix it. The reason I can't
remember is probably because I only have a rudimentary understanding of IP
addresses and how they get created and assigned. I also use "powerline
adaptors" and think that it is something to do with this.Anyone advise?
