Sounds like your DVD drive is broken, does the disc show up if you just open 
DVD Player?

Just to check, switching off gatekeeper isn't the recommended/easy way of 
opening unsigned apps. If you right-click an app then click Open, that will 
offer an exemption to gatekeeper's checks, without disabling them completely in 
System Preferences
