That’ll be after updating there’s a tickbox to enable uploading your Documents 
and Desktop folder to iCloud, it’s all encrypted and very safe though.

You can disable it in System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > untick 
Desktop & Documents folders > you’ll get a warning that your Desktop & 
Documents folders will be empty but the contents available in your iCloud drive 
folder.

You can use the Go menu > iCloud Drive > move everything out of Desktop & 
Documents there into the respective folders in your home folder (Go menu again 
> Home)
