That’s just a new feature of Sierra, it cloud-syncs your Desktop/Documents 
folder. You can switch it off in System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > 
untick Documents/Desktop > it’ll tell you where to find your Desktop/Documents 
on your Mac so you can then drag them back onto the ‘real’ Desktop/Documents 
folders
