I’ve never had an issue running even Sierra on 2011 hardware with an SSD 
installed (wouldn’t attempt it with a spinning disk drive). 

There’s bound to be a fair amount of behind the scenes updating after an 
upgrade, so I’d expect the fans to settle down eventually.
