Hi Smuggers - Sharing my Dropbox experiences so you can be aware.
I’ve been a DB user since Aug 2009. It has been seamless for me. It has just worked. I have used it for most of my files and I am currently a Dropbox Plus user. I got an email from DB on 5/08/17. It said that files had been deleted, but I knew that I hadn’t deleted anything. It didn’t occur to me that the files would have been deleted by Dropbox. I was unable to deal with it at that time, as I am registered disabled, with chronic pain, caused by osteoarthritis and repetitive strain injury (RSI) in both hands and arms. A month ago I was having a flare-up in my hands and arms. When this happens, I have to rest until the pain goes away. I never know how long it will take. It can last many months. This time it has lasted 4 weeks until I have been physically able to sit and type. Yesterday I was finally able to deal with the email. I was confident that the files would be restored as usual & then I reread the email, telling me that I had 30 days. It was then just beyond that time period & there is a real chance that my data has been lost for ever. I have a support ticket with them and by last night they had found the links to a fraction of my files. I have always recommended Dropbox to other people but now I’m going to have to warn them off, in case this happens to them. If my files can’t be retrieved, I will have lost years and years of important data. I’ve not yet tried to read their latest emails. Bit of a nightmare all round.
