I confess to being a release notes reader, probably because I’ve written so many and it seems only right when someone has taken the trouble.
Like you, I can’t imagine what was going through their minds - it couldn’t have been an accident. A total mystery. The speed up is definitely noticeable on my trusty iPad Air, things being much smoother and snappier than iOS 11.
