Hi y’all,

If you’ve not yet read these articles you may well enjoy them:

I eagerly await Federico Vitticci’s full assessment with a couple of weeks:
https://www.macstories.net

I jumped in on the 7th and bought an 11” iPad Pro. I know (to some degree) what
the guys above mean. I’ve had Apple kit since buying the original Macintosh in
’84 and had several Macs since then and now a lovely MacBook pro. I’ve also
owned the first iPad, the iPad Air and now the new Pro. My feeling within half
an hour was that this seems the most perfectly realised machine that Apple have
ever created - it’s so light, feels so good to hold, the Apple pencil is
brilliant, FaceID coupled with everything else really does make it feel
‘magical' (especially when I’ve never even seen an iPhone X!) and it’s stupidly
quick, slick and smooth.

But, why can’t I enter the name and/or description for a photo in the Photos
app or add a keyword? I can search for both but can only add them on my
MacBook. Why can’t I create smart albums in either Files, Mail or Photos on the
iPad when I can do all of those on my Mac? I’d be able to do all of those
things on a 5 year old Macbook Air! As Craig says above:

"Buy one of these new iPads. They’re seductive beyond reason. Buy it knowing
well what its limitations may be. But knowing also that it will get better.
That its engine is years ahead of its software. And in owning one you’ll be
able to follow along as a contemporary operating system matures in real-time,
beta-by-beta, before your very eyes. It’s not often we get to enjoy this.

For now, though, the iPad is still good for writing. Amazing for sketching.
Reliable as a tank. Just don’t switch too quickly between apps. Don’t expect
your cursor to be where you think it should be. Don’t try to do anything fancy
with files. Don’t design a book on it. And don’t hope to open two documents
from the same app side-by-side. Yet.”

I’ve been thinking recently that iOS 7 was a big change in many things iOS 6
years after the original iPhone. iOS 13 will be 6 years after iOS 7. I wonder …
And as Federico has noted, iPad focussed iOS updates tend to be every other
release of iOS. Mind you, the issues pointed out by the reviewers are
conceptual blocks/restrictions by Apple, not really just ’software changes’.

Even with all these caveats though, I love it to bits! 😀

Cheers,

Stephen

Overheard at work: “That tenant came in again today, you know the one who
claims to read minds. She said mine is hard to read. I thought, it shouldn’t be
- it’s only got two words in it."
