Sounds like the display backlight has gone. What’s the serial number of the
Mac? It’s printed on the underside of the base

My trusty old 2008 iMac with an SSD and that had been upgraded to its max OS
of El Capitan (10.11 I think) seems to have a serious problem (but hopefully
not).
I was watching a video on You Tube a couple of hours ago in full screen.
Suddenly the screen went black but the sound continued. If I pressed the space
bar the sound stopped (as that presumably paused the video). Pressing ESC to
get out of full screen did nothing as the screen stayed black.
I powered off . Waited a few minutes then turned it back on. Sound/chime was
normal but screen turned a bit grey and then went black - zilch.

Is there any clever key combination to press while pressing Power?
Maybe it is a failure of the SSD ( I believe they fail without any warning)?
I have a fairly recent back up and Time Machine back up but then I presumably
would need another computer running El Capitan to access the data….

Any thoughts gratefully received.
Nick
