Hi Sam,

That just deleted a fingerprint!

I got to step 7 and it worked. Had to wait a while for it to Connect again 
after switching it on even thought it was connected by cable. I disconnected 
the cable, put the iMac to sleep, touched a key and had the TouchID option 
available and it all worked fine. 😄

I was thinking earlier, before getting it sorted, that if it was faulty and 
happened to be returned, it would be the first Apple product I’ve ever owned 
where there was something wrong with the hardware that required attention 
(excluding the disk that failed in my iMac with the half-dome base back in 
2003).
