Hi Virgina Assuming you're version of macOS and Pages similar to mine, this is what I do.
With file open in Pages Click 'File' in top left Hover over 'Export to...' Click 'Word...' A window appears. Ensure 'Word' is clicked in the top row of said window Click 'Advanced options' Ensure .docx is selected as Format Click Next (button in bottom right of window.
