Then next is what Sam said, then make sure your printer is connected to the 
wifi. You should then be able to “see“ it from your iPad without the MacBook 
needing to be on at all.

If you are not sure how to do that, google your printers model and go to the 
canon.co.uk website where you will be able to access your manual and help files.
