Hi peeps,

I’m wondering if anyone knows what’s going on here …

For years now, every week I’ve had a FaceTime chat with a mate of mine. He says
hello in Messages, I tap the top right camera button and from the dropdown
choose FaceTime video, it rings, it connects and we have our chat. Sometimes he
calls, I answer and we have our video chat. Simple. Lovely. 🙂

I have an iPad in the lounge when I do this. I have an iMac upstairs, an iPhone
next door and an Apple Watch on my wrist. This setup has been in place for just
under a year (take the watch out of the picture and that setup has been the
same since the M1 iMac came out).

In the last month or so it’s all gone crazy. Tonight he calls, as we’ve just
messaged hello on my iPad in Messages. It says a call is coming from him - the
iPad rings, the phone rings and so does my watch. In Messages there is a green
Join button, I tap it but nothing happens and I cannot answer it there, they
all continue ringing. On my watch it says “Do FaceTime audio” and if I answer
it there then it answers but I’m talking to him on my watch with no video (sort
of a bit Thunderbirds!). I cancel the call. If I then try to call him from
Messages with the Join button nothing happens. I then call in FaceTime itself
and it connects but without sound. The red X button does nothing at all and the
only way to stop it is by swiping up to kill FaceTime. Now, when I return to
Messages, instead of Join in green I have the camera button again, I tap it,
choose FaceTime video and it then connects and we can have a chat.

I have absolutely no idea if it’s Apple or me but what used to be quick,
painless and simple has now turned into a consistent, week after week,
convoluted mess. 😢

Any ideas what has happened.? (Sorry this is so long …) All devices are on the
latest OS.
