Places to check would be : 

~ is your home folder

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backups - people tend to have old iOS 
device backups in here which take up loads of space, all safe to delete if you 
don’t need those particular backups
~/Library/Containers/Mail/Data/Library/Logs/Mail - if you have connection 
logging enabled in Mail’s Connection Doctor, you can build up multiple 
gigabytes of log files here, all safe to delete

There’s a utility called Gemini but personally I wouldn’t trust software to 
delete the correct files
