A MacBook Pro, probably approx 2014 model.
On the shelf for perhaps a year, after many years of faithful service.
Last week I started it up, cleaned off old users, installed a new admin user.
All good. Shut it down.
Today I pressed the power button again, it shows an apple logo, progress bar
gets perhaps 25% of the way through, then it restarts again.
Attempting to start shift key down makes no difference. But it doesn't often
seem to recognise start up keys.
I managed to zapping the pram once: the only difference that made is that now
I hear the startup clang over and over again as it repeatedly restarts. I wish
I hadn't!
I put in USB key with a bootable MacOS, and managed once to start with option
key down, and be offered a choice of boot modes - but then it restarted again.
I managed to enter recovery mode once, got as far as inviting me to select a
WiFi network - but then it restarted anyway before I can get as far as
entering a password.
Any ideas what this might be? Any ideas how I can make progress, or fix it?
(I've got a similar slightly older version MacBook Pro that I could sacrifice
if necessary for parts if necessary. Might it be hard drive or memory related?)
All suggestions gratefully received.
