I found today that we have two conflicting requirements that lead us to a circular problem. First, we have the requirement of building the stable ubuntu-core snap from the archive, not using a PPA. Then, we have the requirement of building an edge ubuntu-core snap from the branch so we can test and stabilize the snap. What I would like is that the same snap we put into edge is eventually promoted to stable. If we find through the different stages of testing that the branch used to generate the edge snap is not good to be in stable, we will make fixes to the branch, put a new snap in edge and test again. Eventually we will have a snap that survives all the stages from edge to stable. - From the first requirement, this would mean that we have to generate that edge snap from the ubuntu-snappy package in the archive. But at this moment, what we have in the snappy branch is not stable enough to be pushed to the archive. So, we are in a deadlock. Of course, we can break the loop by changing the process. Here's my ideal scenario: We will have a PPA where we put only the ubuntu-snappy deb generated from the branch. We generate a snap using that PPA and put it in the edge channel. We test and test and test, and once we are confident that it is good, we will promote the snap to the stable channel and push the deb from the PPA to the archive. This breaks the first requirement, so I suppose some people will not like it.
