The launch of a new television station in Toronto produced ratings that
would have been the envy of most cable networks in America. The debut of
the station, dubbed Toronto 1, drew more than 500,000 viewers for a James
Bond movie and about half that number for a premiere variety special,
hosted by the channel's news anchors. A spokesperson for the channel told
the Canadian Press wire service that the Nielsen ratings were "not bad for
a station's first show out of the gates."
