Primitive need upends high-tech trains

LONDON -- Britain's new high-tech trains are being slowed to a stop when people in the washrooms for the disabled try to flush the toilet, a report said Friday. The London Sun reported passengers on the $1.5 billion fleet are pressing the emergency button thinking it activates the flush. That flashes a warning to the driver, who has to stop while the guard investigates. The confusion is because the flush button is hidden when the seat is raised, and all that travelers see is the red emergency button. Rail bosses have ordered the emergency buttons to be moved to another position on trains waiting to come into service. A spokesman said: "The buttons are not next to each other but some passengers are obviously getting a bit confused. We are making regular announcements to try to stop it."
