CBS 'Delighted' Over Rush's Troubles; Conservatives Vow Support
The left-wing media are in the midst of a full-throated victory
dance over Rush Limbaugh's plight, suggesting - erroneously - that the twin
controversies over his comments on ESPN and allegations he abused painkillers
will leave him sidelined.
CBS News, for instance, can barely contain its joy over the news.
"Am I delighted to see Rush Limbaugh attacked, ridiculed and forced out of
his ESPN gig? Absolutely. Justice is being served," said Dick Meyer, editorial
director at CBSNews.com.
In quotes from the network's official Web site first reported by
RatherBiased.com, Meyer continued:
"Limbaugh's public shtick for years and years has had a constant hum of
low-grade racism and race baiting. So why did [Limbaugh's remark] cause such a
frenzy when so many other cracks hadn't? ... I don't know, but as I said, I am
delighted."
For coverage of the painkiller story, "CBS Evening News" anchorman Dan Rather
turned Thursday night to correspondent Byron Pitts, who suggested Rush's plight
was poetic justice.
"The man who made his living lashing out at others is now finding himself on
the receiving end," Pitts proclaimed.
Then Pitts turned for comment to Donny Deutsch, an ad agency owner who,
earlier this year, referred to Fox News Channel host Bill O'Reilly as the
"Antichrist."
Deutsch told Pitts that if Limbaugh was guilty it would neutralize the talk
radio icon as an effective conservative spokesman.
"When you've built a career on preaching what a good life is and law and
order and toeing the straight line. When ... that line that you've been on is
not so straight anymore, it's clearly a touch of irony here," Deutsch said.
Of course, CBS has yet to address the controversy that Rather himself stirred
up two years ago when he said his bosses had a case of "the Buckwheats" after
they ordered him to cover the Gary Condit story.
And check out CBS's own
politically incorrect comments about Donovan McNabb.
As for leftists' hopes that the painkiller controversy will cause Rush's star
to fade in the eyes of conservatives, they'd better not bet the farm.
Lucianne Goldberg summed up the sentiments of legions of Limbaugh's fans
today, reminding readers of her Web site Lucianne.com: "This man has been there
for you. It's time to be there for him."
