Next 'XXX' Revs Up Without Diesel

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) -- The sequel to the high-action "XXX" movie that starred Vin Diesel won't include the star or director Rob Cohen, according to Revolution Studios.

The former rapper Ice Cube will inherit the role along with "Die Another Day" director Lee Tamahori and will begin production next summer in order to be in theaters by 2005.

Revolutions, a branch of Sony Pictures, will continue to work with Diesel on another project, "Hannibal."

"When we made the decision to cast a new lead actor, Ice Cube was the perfect choice," says Revolution Studios partner Todd Garner. "He is a fantastic actor who has the attitude and versatility required to bring this new character to life. We are extremely indebted to Vin, who helped us launch the franchise, and look forward to working with him on the two projects we are developing together."

Ice Cube has appeared in "Barbershop" and the "Friday" franchise, but this would mark his biggest role to date.
