Military Analyst: Bush Must Counter Media Misinformation on Iraq Policy

(AgapePress) - A military watchdog says the Bush Administration needs to do a better job of responding to the partisan attacks from Democrats and the media about the rebuilding of Iraq.

Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, shares the belief of many others that the situation in Iraq is not nearly as bad as ABC's Peter Jennings and CNN have been reporting. Still, the conservative military analyst believes the president needs to do a better job of responding to media misinformation about progress in post-war Iraq.

Donnelly feels the president's best response would be to remain as available as he can to answer questions. Meanwhile, she says, press advisers for Bush and for the U.S. military need to come up with a better plan for dealing with partisan attacks, which she feels are likely to escalate.

"I think the press operation at the White House -- and at the Pentagon -- is in a time of transition. They're going to have to get a more sound strategy, I'm afraid, in the coming months, because it's going to get worse," Donnelly says.

The military readiness expert feels that Bush's foreign policy record stands on its own. And, while she admits the U.S. action in Iraq has by no means been a perfect military operation, she asserts that it needed to be done and the world is better off for it.

Donnelly is primarily urging the Bush Administration to be proactive, prepared, and wary of past errors.

"The president, I think, is smart enough to unite all the forces that should be behind him," she says. "However, we remember just how close [the 2000 presidential election] was, and many of the mistakes made then certainly should not be made again."
