Well now if you do that it's automatically unexcused.  The parent has no
discretion at all.  It's all mandated by paper pushers.  We went to Disney
one week, I called them in sick every morning from the balcony of the hotel.

Yup. When I was a kid, sometimes we'd take time off to visit grandparents or
something and the school never made too much of a fuss. 
They gave me the homework to do and my parents made sure I did it.
