We seldom exercise the veto in relation to Israel.  We did a few weeks ago,
but usually we abstain.  We have a terminal case of not wanting to offend
the ragheads.  We could have a more powerful Veto by involving ourselves in
a mutual defense pact with Israel and putting the full force and might of
the US military in their corner.

And here's the reason the U.S. can't afford to totally withdraw from the
United Nations -- doing so would mean sacrificing its Security Council veto
and would leave Israel even more exposed.
