Beer Does Not Create Beer Belly
Beer does not cause a beer belly, according to a study of 2,000 Czech men and women by the University College London and the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine in Prague. Czechs have topped world beer consumption rates for some time, and the study found the men drank an average 3.3 quarts of beer a week and women drank an average .32 quarts of beer a week. Doctors measured the participants' weight, their waist to hip ratio and body mass index -- used to measure obesity, the BBC reports. "There is a common notion that beer drinkers are, on average, more 'obese' than either non-drinkers or drinkers of wine or spirits," the researchers say. They found no link between beer consumption and obesity.
