The actress gave birth last Thursday to son Deacon Phillippe, her second child with husband Ryan Phillippe.

The thesp duo also has a four-year-old daughter, Ava.

Deacon is in excellent health, and the family is excited and doing well, according to Reese's rep, Nancy Ryder.

No futher details were released, but the Election star allowed that the second time around was far easier than her pregnancy with Ava.

"When I found out I was pregnant for the first time, I was just 22 years old, not married and living in Los Angeles trying to be an actress. Having to rise to the challenge of becoming a mother and work at the same time gave me the confidence to tackle anything," Witherspoon, now 27, told London's Mirror over the summer. "Now I'm just much more relaxed about it all. It feels like second nature to Ryan and me because we've been there before.

The Cruel Intentions tandem met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday. After dating for two years, the pair announced they were pregnant and subsequently wed in June 1999.

As one of the highest-paid stars in Hollywood, Witherspoon has a lot to juggle. Between her numerous acting roles, her production company, Type A Productions, and motherhood, the native Southerner keeps busy.

However, being a good parent is her number one concern--she and Phillippe, 29, coordinate their filming schedules so that one of them is always home with the kids.

"I'm very lucky in that my husband and I balance our work careers. When he goes and does a movie, I take time off, and then when I'm doing a movie, he takes time off," Witherspoon told Sydney's Daily Telegraph. " We want to make sure our children always have one parent around."

Her latest pregnancy didn't come at the most opportune time--the flaxen ingnue was due to start filming her latest flick, Vanity Fair.

"When I called [director Mira Nair (news)] up to tell her I was pregnant I think she thought I was going to say I wasn't going to do the film," Witherspoon told the Mirror. "But I said I was ready to start the next day and, surprisingly, she was up for the challenge."

Carefully placed props intially concealed her pregnancy; but eventually it was written into the script.

Other projects that were on the horizon may either have to be put on hold or accept a Reese substitute. Planned projects include a starring turn as June Carter in the Johnny Cash (news) biopic I Walk the Line, as well as a producing-starring credit for Columbia's Bunny Lake Is Missing.

"I don't know if there's any right time for anybody to get pregnant," Witherspoon told the Daily Telegraph, alluding to the necessity of taking time off. "Life just sort of happens to you, it's natural. I don't think you can really plan pregnancy...It's a blessing when it happens and you have to see it that way."

Now that little Deacon has joined the Witherspoon-Phillippe household, the new parents plan on spending some quality family time together.

"I want to be with my baby and my little girl," Witherspoon told the Mirror. "I want some real family time because I've been working a lot over the last two or three years. I love to stay home with my family, to hang out and be a mom and organize my daughter's life. That feels very natural to me."
