Halloween Banned In Moscow Schools
Although Russian schools had been celebrating Halloween, recently Moscow schools were advised by the education department that "Halloween celebration cannot be allowed in any form." The department says Halloween activities contain religious elements -- the cult of death, scoffing at death, personification of death and evil spirits -- that contradicts the temporal character of education in state-run educational institutions, Pravda reports. The holiday "produces a destructive effect upon the psychological, moral and spiritual health of students," the directive says. The education department says it's important to create new forms of "joint holidays that could be celebrated with students, teachers and parents according to the basic values of the Russian culture."
