Yes, the primary reason for our switch is
that the equivalent in programming through the local cable company is $20 more
expensive than what I pay monthly to direct TV. Now, yes, I had to pay the
initial outlay for the equipment, but I have long ago paid for that in the
savings from the monthly fees. Jackie mentioned she gets 700 channels on
her cable. It's nothing like that here. Cable users get
significantly less channels (not counting pay per view or VOD) than satellite
users. I recognize it's not like that in every cable market, but it is
here.
Charles Mims
With
my digital cable the only thing I got for free on there that I don't on my
satellite was my local channels which I could care less about those anyway. They
suck. Other than that, the cable had me paying more for each receiver/month than
my sat does. Of course if I worked for the cable company around here I'd
definitely have cable b/c around here employees get all their equipment and
service for free. So yeah if I worked for them, nothing is better than paying
anything at all, LOL
We have a couple friends
that had satellite too.
I never saw the big
deal...especially for the costs.
Too many hidden costs..I
don't like that.
Plus you have to pay extra
for every little thing.

Check it out somewhere else,
what your saying your sister has isn't common with satellite from what I've
seen. I'm betting something is wrong with her equipement and or connections.
Bet if you seen what it's really like, you'd love it. :)
You also can't compare the on
screen tv guide either, no comparison there either. lol You can do so much
more with satellites it isn't funny. :)

well we'll agree to
disagree. Because if given the choice of my sister's crap satellite or my
digi..the digi wins hands down. her satellite, pictures, and customer
service all suck ass.
The only reason she
still has it is because her husband got roped into a 2 year contract with
them.

We had digitial cable for
awhile and the picture at times was worse than useing a set top antenna.
What a joke. lol Sorry Bethany, but I've had both a number of
times....and when I have a choice I'll never use anything but satellite.
lol

Well we have to remember, Bethany's husband I think works for
Comcast.....LOL< so I'm trying not to say anything too bad about
them. (but for the record, you are right) Oh yeah with our digital
receiver, we couldn't hook up any of our surround sound stuff we have
with it. It didn't have enough inputs or outputs or something like
that.
I've never seen anywhere
that cable had half the channels you could get on satellite, and
usualy you pay more for the half you get. PLUS the picture quality
there is no comparison.....
On price, on picture
qualtiy, on number of channels you name it. Any way you slice it,
cable can't compare.

My satellite bill right now for all the basic channels plus
all the premium channels cept for Cinemax is $81 a month. My digi
before I cancelled it with only HBO was $97 and I only had half
the basic channels that I have now. I can't even get Sci-Fi on
digi cable around here.
Really?
My sister has
satellite and hates it. Plus they have to pay extra for local
stations, etc...
She pays more
for her satellite than she would for digital. And as she
says...most of the satellite channels are useless
anyway.
I've been to
her house and I wouldn't trade my digi cable for her satellite
if ya paid me..LOL
Plus I love my
VOD too.

That isn't just
Comcast, cable can't compete with satellite period. Anyone
who's had satellite & digital cable, knows what a
joke digital cable is. lol No comparison,
whatsoever.....
Every time I see
the local commercial about trading in your dish for cable's
"buy back" program I crack up. I think yeah you do, and you'll
be sorry you did. lol

Sorry, but Comcast around here sucks.
Put it this way, I can get all the channels on my satellite
including movie channels for the cost of just the regular
digital channels w/no movie channels through Comcast and
their digital doesn't even have as many channels as the
satellite. Not to mention all the people that work for
Comcast around here are about as rude as can be and the last
time I had them for cable, they came to fix it once and
wound up breaking the cable input on the back of my son's tv
and then said I did it and not them. I have good reasons for
not liking them. Now, however, I was visiting a friend once
in Eastern Va and she had Comcast and they weren't as bad. I
think it's just this area.
*sigh*
Dissing
on my family's bread winner...

I'm eventually going to have basic cable
run into my bedroom so I have a tv to watch and then
I'm getting the cable modem through Comcast, even though
I really do hate them. I want high
speed.

I've already called them. They are trying to say now I
should be getting my mail so they can't understand
why I'm not. I swear if it weren't for the
convenience of paying the bill, I'd try to find a
different isp. >
