Laurie, Man! do you have a full plate.. I have no idea what I am talking about, but my advise as to your job is to tough it out for awhile and try not to make too many enemy's. Some day *you* will be the one that is casting sideways glances. I have faith that you are doing a lot better than you are giving yourself credit for.

Tell Maridyth to get her backside back on the list and post...I miss her..and I know everyone else does too. Glad to hear she is settling in and the girls are doing good and accepting her in the parental role. That is sometimes a hard adjustment.
I am doing pretty good. I work in the Survelliance and Systems Engrg Dept. We spend money on all kinds of things that help support missions. For example a few months ago our group installed 140 cyber cafes in Kuwait and Iraq so that the service people could email home. We do lot of things I can't talk about or I would have to shoot you, but mainly I get orders to provide the money for services and labor and supplies to do all kinds of things. Do I like it? Some days. Yesterday was not a good day. I find that Interns are resented because in 3 years I will move up the ladder and go from a GS7 to a GS 12. There are many people there that have worked 20 years and never see higher than a GS9. But they have to train me. So..they are not all that forth coming..but they sure do like to talk behind your back and make comments and critize. I have been there 45 days as of tomorrow. Because I don't work for the Spawar command but for the internship program out of Mechanicsburg, they can't use me as a labor option but I do help out where I can when I am not taking this online class called Contracts 101. They USED to send people away for 4 weeks to take it in a classroom..but now I have to read it online, answer questions and hope I pass the tests at the end of the units. My big test for this..is buying latrines for the army...don't laugh..this is big stuff. I found out you don't rent these kinds of things..LOL..now I am into gazebo's. just wait..I know those solid gold toilet seats are out there somewhere. Oh...one of the things we do is compare labor rates for all kinds of job categories..so if you have say a Sr. Engineer that makes 75 bucks an hour...for one job..he can't make 85 for another..they have to stay in certain areas..and you have to verify everything...even plane and perdiem rates to make sure they are being charged right. Does it sound like fun yet? The last intern that went through went to the Navy Yard in DC..and worked getting the ships stripped of anything sensitive before they were sold to our foreign allies after we decommission them. Any parts that were salvageable were sent back to their origins..and the government made money on that..but also got a deal on any further equipment from them..so..someone has to make those deals...so far..I am into latrines and gazebos..although I did spend some of the governments money extending a period of performance on some work being done on a ship today.
My love life....well I am still seeing Ken who lives in Roanoke Rapids. We are trying to make this long distance thing work out but it is hard..and I want him to move here..for he can do his job anywhere...and there is nothing there in that dinky town. He doesn't have any really close ties other than collegues and his daughter really needs to be in a school that challenges her more..but SC schools are not that hot either..but there is a really nice prep school almost next door to me :) So..time will tell..in the meantime, we are commuting back and forth on the weekends..I go up there when he is on call and he comes down here when his daughter doesn't have soccer. He is a great guy..and we get along well..so..I guess time will tell. In the meantime, getting through the week and with school starting back up in Jan...life is hectic. I will be going away for a week in Dec..to Norfolk for an orientation..they are putting us up at the Radisson for a week...all expenses paid and we have to do tours and such...I have a feeling there will be lots of alcohol consumed.
I can't wait to see the pictures of the horses. So, what do you do in the off season besides maintenence and killing Bambi??? Have you gotten a real good venison recipe yet? I hear stew is very good with it.
The kids are getting settled in at the new high school. They like it better than Jacksonville and that is good cause I was worried. Now if my son would do better...I wouldn't be holding my breath about his graduating in May. I have a feeling it is going to be a close call.
So..that is my life...well..the Reader's Digest version anyways.

Laurie, The horses here at the farm are fine.... wet, but fine. It rained about five inches the last couple of days. I have some pics undeveloped in the camera. If the sun ever comes out again I will try to remember to shoot it up. We are all done racing until spring.... I am on sort of vacation right now. All I do is quick do chores in the morning and then either go deer hunting, play in the sandbox or take a nap. Oh... I did clean the gutters... *after* the five inches of rain started to run into the basement.... <G> The girls are doing good... they both got glowing reports at the recent teacher conferences. Maridyth is doing well she is starting to become more comfortable with the mother role. <G> She wants to get a job, but hasn't found one to her liking here in the middle of nowhere.
What about *You*, woman? Do you like your new job? Now that you guys spent all the money that your were supposed to, what do you do? How are your kids adjusting to there new home? Do you like your new car? Have you found romance yet, or do you have time for that? <G> Tim
