The point is to teach them about
being responsible and not putting themselves in a situation where they could
possibly be killed. Say your kid is playing on a window ledge and falls.
Is it on purpose? Of course not, but most would punish them for putting
themselves in a postion to fall out the window in the first place. Your teaching
them saftey and responsibility.
the point is still the same you can get killed walking out your front door so whats the point of punishing someone for an accident
