Will Ferrell Is One Big 'Elf'  (MadBlast.com)
In Theatres Friday
Will Ferrell has gained the reputation as a comedian who’s not afraid to do anything. He’ll run down the street naked in Old School and make out with his Saturday Night Live costars, even the guys. But Ferrell is not a wild man. In an interview, he sits quietly, almost sedate. It’s the opposite of his character in Elf, who is so enthusiastically happy all the time.

“That was kind of the fun part of getting to play this character because I don’t know if I’ve played anything that was constantly eternally optimistic,” Ferrell said. “So that actually was the fun part of doing the role. If we could find a way to handle it correctly, the appeal of it was to be able to shoot a film that would be funny but also heartfelt and be a different type of thing for me to do in terms of something that a family audience would see as opposed to some of the other projects that I have gotten to work on which have obviously been for a different audience. That was the appeal. To have the potential to be in something like this.”
