Ive worked in alot of retail places and have
never come across that.

You know, it was later compared to
re-turned stuff at Wal-Mart. I don't know about everywhere, but I was just
thinking in re-reading this. Unless I'm highly mistaken, in some places it is
not only not right to do it, it is *illegal* to put returned goods on the shelf
and sale them as new.

I agree Greg. I
can't imagine how you'd possibly look through it in 10 days and not have any
bent or ruffled pages, etc...

Still taking it home on a ten
day loan, while neat that you can do it...they still should put them on a
used book rack IMO.
Ten days taken home, isn't quite
the same as looking at them while browseing. Were I an employee, I would
love it. But were I the customer, I wouldn't like being sold a used
book as a new one. lol
Because no matter how you slice
it, if it's been out of the store for up to 10 days...it ain't a "new" book.
lol

Well very few actually take advantage of it. Most of the
time someone gets one to read on lunch or while there is no other work to
be done. No different really than customers coming in there and getting a
book and sitting down at the table and reading it. They don't stop
customers from doing that. You see it at Books a Million all the time too.
They don't ever really buy the books, they just get them and sit down and
read parts of them while in the store, trying to decide if they do want to
buy it.
Angela
I figured they would have to
look new, but that's kind of deceptive to the public. I was wondering if
that's what they were doing...
I would suspect if it ever
became public knoweldge it could back fire on them though, because the
books aren't actually *new* if someone else has done read them. Their

Well we have to bring them back in excellent condition,
otherwise we have to pay for them, but yes they go ahead and sell them
as new. The cover can't even be creased though and we are only allowed
to keep one for 10 days. After 10 days we either return it or pay for
it.
Now that is
NEAT!
But I have a question,
do they turn around and sale the books as *new* when you don't want
them?

I just don't see the point in even having
a "banned list". I mean yeah completely disagree with their
opinions and views, but isn't that part of what is so great about
America is being able to have those different views. I don't agree
with half of what any of the starts said, but if I started adding
them to a list of stars I would never watch/read/listen to again,
I'd have no form of entertainment. Even though I didn't agree at
all with what the Dixie Chicks said or how they went about it, I still
listen to them. I'm not going to quit buying a cd if it sounds
good. Same goes for Steven King, if the book is good, I won't
stop buying his books. And on the upside while I'm still working
at the bookstore, I'm able to "check out" books like at a library
so I can bring it home and read it and if I like it, I
can buy it, if I don't , I'll take it back. And for the
record, King's newest book, Wolves of the Calla is like #2 or
3 on the Best Sellers list right
now.

Oh it
was this year..an anti war statement. I was quite distraught
over having to add him to my banned list.
