Subject: SciFi Channels "Battlestar Galactica"

HI Charles,

I'm assuming that you're a regular watcher of SciFi Channel, so I'm also assuming that you'll be watching "Battlestar Galactica" when it starts on Dec. 8.
I'm planning to watch, if I'm able, because the scenes that have been shown and the article in "SciFi Channel" magazine tell me that this is NOT just a high tech update of the original children's show from the 70's.
The magazine says that it's got a number of very dark, almost hopeless type of themes that have been a staple of sci fi since it started. It's also more oriented to adults and uses Science and Technology in a mature way to get its message across.
I'd like to see what the Battlestar looks like because all the scenes have simply shown the Cylon craft which seem to bear a similarity to the Romulan Warbirds of "Star Trek-The Next Generation."
The Vipers don't seem to have changed much on the outside, but look luxurious on the inside. And Thank God the Pilot's Flight Suits and Helmets look more realistic than they did in the original.
Did you know that Edward James Olmos[William Adama]originally said no to doing the whole thing, but one look at the script with its dark, malevolent story line and the type of characters portrayed and he changed his mind.
I, personally, enjoy the dark, hopeless stories that explore the problems that we have today and what they could turn into in the future if we don't do something now to turn the tide. "Brave New World" and "1984" are the tops of this kind of dark genre and if you look closely at reality, you'd be surprised at how much of Orwell and Huxley's writing are actually coming to pass.
Filmed versions of those novels have never been successful with me. Script writers just don't consider the storylines and themes properly in order to give the kind of visual impact a dark tale should have. I hope "Battlestar" will succeed, though.
BTW, I'd like to know how to get into sandbox mailing list because nothing happens when I try to get in. I didn't realize how long it's been since I last logged in!

                  Happy Thanksgiving!

                           Alex
