I can go along with your thoughts here.  It is quite possibly a difference
in degrees and/or shades of meaning.  I might would even say I pity him,
because it is such a horrible place to be in.  

But I don't necessarily feel sorry for him, because he chose to do what he
did.  More than pitying him, I am saddened by the circumstances.

I don't know why even argue, but Ill put my two cents in once again. :-0)

It is sad. I cant exactly disagree. The fact that a kid that young cant find
even one thing in his life or one resaon to pull himself out of that
depression. However, in the context of this question, an answer of yes
indicates to me that Im saying I pity him, <for lack of a better word> I
don't, therefore, that is why my answer was no.
