Sounds like an interesting life.  Don't know if I could live up there...I know my wife would hate it.  She doesn't want to go any where that you can measure snow in feet.   David L. I'm an Air Force brat so I grew up in a lot of places from California to Frankfurt Gemany. In 38 years, the longest I stayed in one place was seven years. I never went into the service but never learned how to settle down.   I always hated the cold (Illinos cold really sucks) until I moved to Texas, 5 months out of the year it's was so feeeekin hot that I couldn't even go outside during the daytime. the other 7 months everything is green.   Up here the seasons are pretty well defined. We have all four although not always that at the same time each year. Snow in June is an interesting treat. Stifling hot only lasts a few weeks. The fall colors are great. The winter solstice arrives and it is so cold the air crakles. Northern Lights. Variable amounts of snow usually by Febuary the ground is covered with snow (but not always). The lakes are pretty much frozen if we haven't had unusually warm tempuratures. Ice fishing is a sport up here (although I don't understand reason behind sitting on a frozen lake to catch fish). You can drive a fullsize pickup truck on the lakes. Spring brings many thunderstorms and we have tornados. The snow melt can make the rivers real wide and deep. We have Lutefisk which I am not brave enough to try.
