Speed Bumps Hurt Police Cars

The Metropolitan Police Department in London is joining the opposition to a British government program to install speed bumps to slow traffic. The police criticized the program because it puts speed bumps on roads that have no history of accidents, the London Daily Telegraph reports. The London Ambulance Service estimates the speed bumps increase travel times -- resulting in more than 500 deaths a year. Police say the bumps have damaged 34 police vehicles -- at an average cost of about $350 per vehicle.
