nexus \NEK-sus\ (noun) - Connection, link; also a causal
link; a connected group or series; center or focus.
"When he was a young newspaperman, John often wrote about the nexus
between politicians and big business."
>From the Latin "nectere," ("to bind") which is also the
root of "connect," and "annex" ("to attach as an
addition," or more specifically "to incorporate into a political
domain"). When "nexus" came into English in the 17th century, it
meant "connection." Eventually, it took on the additional meaning
"connected series" (as in "a nexus of relationships"). In
the past few decades it has taken the additional meaning of "center"
(as in "the trade nexus of the region").
