Adam Baldwin, best known to SF fans as the mercenary Jayne on Joss Whedon's
Firefly, told SCI FI Wire that he is pursuing a role on the upcoming
Stargate Atlantis, a spin-off of the SCI FI Channel's Stargate SG-1. "I'm
hoping that can work out," he said during an interview at the Los Angeles
Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention. "We're working on it. Nothing
set in stone just yet. I'm actually trying convince them to hire me."

Baldwin said that he is up for a supporting character not unlike his role
on Firefly. "He's a military guy," he said. "I would be one of the
supporting ensemble guys. Not the lead guy. I'm a little past my prime.
They want someone in there in their early 20s. You've got to launch a show
with a 20-something guy. That's just the nature of the beast these days. So
I hopefully could jump in and add my experience to any new show."

In the meantime, Baldwin can be seen in the recently released box set
Firefly: The Complete Series, which came out Dec. 9.

Stargate Atlantis is a weekly series set to premiere in the summer of 2004,
alongside the upcoming eighth season of SG-1. Production on 20 hourlong
episodes of Atlantis is set to start in early 2004. Meanwhile, the
remaining episodes of the current seventh season of SG-1 will return to SCI
FI on Jan. 9, 2004, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
