yep, I basically did an extended induction
with Atkins for 3-4 months. Then I started adding in whole grains, wheat and
some fruit for the last month or so.
I never did the add 5 carbs a week. I am
going to *try* and do that when I get to my last 10 pounds. But I basically know
what I can eat and how much. If I go off plan for a day or so, I just hunker
down the following day, kwim?
I have never been one to totally grab the
mindset that you can't ever have *bad stuff* again. I ate mashed potatoes and
had some pie at Thanksgiving and it didn't do anything. Now for Christmas, I
took off for a week. LOL
I also didn't hit my kickboxing class just
about the whole month of December either.

<nods> We did the same to South
Beach. I discovered that the breads didn't affect me when eaten in
moderation. So I don't worry about them at all
anymore.
I've maintained the same weight for about
4 months now without gaining it back, and not being really on the diet.
I've been "swimming" more than "on the beach". In the next few weeks I
am going to get back serious and try to find time to exercise so I can go
ahead down to where I want to be.
Charles
Mims
well I actually have modified Atkins to
my liking.

Not as quickly. Like I said, it's
a similar diet.

Charles, actually Atkins adds back in
the good carbs too.

It's similar to Atkins, with modifications. The
premise is the same. High proteins, low carbs. The
difference is that South Beach distinguishes between "bad" and "good"
carbs. For example, bread is allowed but only multi or whole
grain. No white food...it's a racist diet.
There are
other minor differences, but I think they are negligible. It
was a diet designed by a cardiologist for his heart patients and he
realized that a side benefit was they were losing weight.
The
good thing about the diet is that if you "cheat" your whole
program isn't ruined. You just pick up where you left off.

Charles?
You and Beth are on the South Beach Diet right? I think
you said that you both have done terrific. Tell me about that one. I
have been working with the Adkins one here..and I am not doing all that
well on it.
