--Kerry Maintains Lead, Dean Surging

--Edwards Closes in on Clark for 3rd Place

Massachusetts Senator John Kerry maintains his lead over former Vermont
Governor Howard Dean.

Today's three-day rolling average has Kerry with 31% to Dean's 28% for New Hampshire's Democratic primary next Tuesday, with Kerry down 4 points from yesterday's Zogby Poll. Here is how the Kerry-Dean race is shaping up (previous tracking results in parentheses, beginning with most recent):

Kerry--31% (30-31--30-27-23)

Dean--28% (23-22-22-24-25)

Retired General Wesley Clark is in third place with 13%, followed by North Carolina Senator John Edwards with 12%.

Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman polled at 9%. John Zogby's Analysis Follows:

1. Dean had another good polling day, and has picked up support among groups he once led.  His strength among 18-29 year olds looks solid.  Will they vote? Thirteen percent are still undecided, though in today's release we have factored in Leaners to reflect how Undecideds might break.

2. Kerry leads in three out of four regions, in the first Congressional District, among Independents, all voters over 30 years of age, union members, Moderates, married voters, men and women.  He and Dean battle over college educated voters.

3. Dean has improved his favorable rating, while Kerry's unfavorable rating
has crept up.  Edwards is highly regarded and with a very high favorable rating, could move into 3rd place by Tuesday.

4. Lieberman and Clark seem to be stuck.

5. Only sixteen percent of New Hampshire's likely primary voters think that it is unlikely that one of these Democrats can defeat President Bush. However, almost half of these voters feel that Dean is unlikely to defeat President Bush.

Polling results will be released daily through Tuesday, January 27th, the date of New Hampshire's Democratic primary election. Zogby International conducted telephone interviews of a random sampling of 600 likely primary voters statewide over a rolling three-day period. All calls were made from Zogby International headquarters in Utica, N.Y., from Friday, January 23 through Sunday, January 25. The margin of error is +/- 4.1 percentage points.
