Yes.

However, there are a number of utilities that can be used to run programs like this as a service. In the short term we will be selecting one or two of these to recommend.

In the shorter term you might try launching the program and setting your screen-saver settings to secure the sysetem so that you can leave the account logged in - we are doing this now on our testbed.

After a while we will create the service code needed for an actual Sniffer daemon, but this work is slated for later on our schedule since it can be complex to do code properly, and because that will mark the point where our Winx and *nix code bases diverge. Up to now we've always been able to keep the source code for Sniffer identical for all platforms. We are hoping to keep this true for as long as possible.
