There are "distributed concerns" that I have to live with, almost dictating 
the use of SOAP over HTTP, or at least XXX over HTTP. 
Firewalls!!! 

SOAP offered a nice middle ground.

HOWEVER, calling it Simple OBJECT Access Protocol is to me a bit 
overstatement, or I am missing something rudimentarily important (passing a 
object reference) for that claim.
