If you describe your problem a little more in detail, including the
description of:

o How the Java client and VC++ server are communicating at
    the transport layer.

o What kind of message format they are using and messages
   are acrossed over you are not using the SOAP at present.

o etc...

And then you will probably get better luck by helping the participants
in this group.

Once you find out what is going on you may need to step into the
decision making process whether you need to tear off chucks of
code from either or both the client and server part, for example,
if your client/server communication method is using the TCP
directly.

Of course, it will be better off to start from scratch sometimes
which is one of wee-known fact. We do not have that kind of
luxury in some cases. :-)
