An addendum to my post: I'm trying to build tomcat 5.0.18 (not .12) on this new machine with ant (hoping to circumvent the previous issue), but after typing "ant" in the jakarta source directory, the build just hangs.
It says the name of the buildfile and that's all I can tell is happening. I tried -v and -debug but there was no more information. Does ANT go out to the internet to retrieve stuff? And if so, are there any special firewall settings needed to allow that to happen?
