If I were to make a "Hall of Fame" for soaring I would have catagories of achievement as I think there are different areas which have different "heros", and they all deserve recognition. You could then put them all into a spreadsheet and write a little macro to come out with a "combined" all-time greatest 10 ten... Areas of recognition I would include: 1. Manufacturing/ Distributing People we love to hate, but what the hell would we do without these "cottage" industry guys and thier long-suffering wives? I'd have Sal Defrancisco, the RnR guys, the DJ aerotec guys and ...maybe...even the Kman ;-) as current members- just as a start...Oh yea, and all those foamy guys who are making the future safe for soaring by stopping the "greying" 2. Design/Engineering Kinda important... Mark Allen, Lee Renaud, Joe Hahn, Joe Wurts, Mike Popescu, Don Peters, Fred Mallet, Charlie Richardson etc., etc., 3. Support The unsung heroes- perhaps the most important of all top guys like me who just "show up", pay my little entry fee and expect a perfectly run, perfectly fair, perfectly safe competition/event with good weather... They also are out there helping "newbies" and good PR for clubs and soaring in general. Karl the "Winchman" (HSS) Don Richmond, Ron Schark George Joy, Roger Saville Vince at ISS Many, many, many others 4. Oh yea, guys who win a lot. This people are important because they find out things about soaring, push back margins and drive developement that benefits everyone. They also are a motivator to us all to improve... You all know who these guys are... This is just my Humble opinion, and if I am leaving out or whatever remember that I am a west coast relative newcomer (feb. 1997) to "Big time" soaring...
