My friend Dave Reese & I went to Los Banos
yesterday to meet up with Gordy and everyone else.
I had never met Gordy before and have been known
to pull his chain on the exchange from time to
time and didn't know how he was going to react to
meeting me. I found him to be a real gentleman
and had a good time talking to him.
An added bonus was to find Dave Wenzlick and his
friend Hank there. Dave Wenzlick helped me do
some programing on my Futaba. He is really a
great guy and extremely helpful.
There was no wind but some were hi-starting some
big full-house thermal birds and getting in some
stick time. I had brought my electric "Solitaire"
and was flying it. I let Dave Reese fly it and he
really put it through its paces. I bought this
plane after seeing Dieter of "Shredair" fame,
flying one at Kiona Butte during the speed trials
this past June. The plane is fabulous to say the
least. Dieter will be at Visalia this week-end
and you really must look over the products he is
selling. That is if he has anymore to show. I
heard he sold some at Reno two days ago, so they
are going fast.
I finally got to meet Tim Cone of "Night-Ops" fame
and found him to be a great guy to talk to. He
put on an after dark aerial display that was real
cool.
I also got to meet Michael Volz and found him to
be very friendly and interesting to talk to and
listen to the things he has to say. There were
many others who I don't remember all of there
names but will recognize if we meet again
sometime. I think all in all the guys who love
this hobby of ours are a just one helluva nice
bunch of great characters and fun to get in some
QHT with. (Quality Hang Time)
Gordy was a gracious host and threw a gala BBcue
in Dave Reese's and my honor. What a guy! He
cooked my steak to perfection. Oh, and earlier in
the day he let me carry his transmitter too. My
life is complete.
