Everytime we think it just can't get any better - it gets better.......!! My OFB (Ted Guy) and I have been flying every day 'cept sundays for quite some time - but today - WOW......what a day....!!! The appointed time to meet at the field (a city park bigger than 5 soceer fields) was 10AM to be sure temp was above 40 (it was). We had a student coming and a couple of flying friends just dropped by to see why we were having all the fun. We sure showed 'em......!! Between the 3 of us we flew 2 different Miss Europas (28 ounces gross weight), 2 different Chubby Ladies (10.5 ounces gross weight) and a 29 ounce scale e-model of an N-3 PUP (ultralight version of a Piper Cub). Yes, they were all electric powered models so why is this on RCSE......?? Because we flew in and out of thermals at will and they thermal like 2 meter planes. Why on the Small net....?? Because they were all powered by little bitty speed 400's and speed 280's !! .....and besides all that it was just a perfect day - all day - so read on and I'll tell you why; We kept two planes in the air most of the time and each of us flew out at least 3 battery cycles. We quit when we were so hungry it was necessary. Lunch was Chalupas and Tacos plus all the soft drink we could soak up - then guess what..... You all call 'em naps but here they are siestas (old Mexican tradition). OFB called at 3PM .to wake me up. An hour later we were on our way to the balloon field (several acres of smooth surrounded by miles and miles of nothing.....!!!!) where we commenced to continue committing aviation. In other words we flew until the sun went down. I flew my 67" span e-powered playboy and OFB was flying a gas powered 'One Step' designed by Randy Randolph....OBTW, thanks Randy - I was also flying it and we agree it is wonderful. My OFB often flys below 10' altitude and strafes everything and everyone in sight - just for the fun of it. And, we laugh 'til our sides hurt (mostly with pure joy of flying or at the one liners or even when events warrant).......like when we flew the One Step around forever - then OFB ran out of fuel way out on a long final approach. Me and a spectator verbally encouraged the plane as it continued over the ungraded terrain and it just barely drug the landing gear on the berm and slid down the field side......you can't get any closer and still miss. The reward for all this...?? Nothing broke. No need to fix a thing. Just go home, get the wife and go out for dinner (I usually cook, just didn't have time for it - - - too busy having fun. Don't know how it could be any better - but looking forward to tommorrow - gotta go to a private school and teach 14 6-9th graders how to fly 2-meter sailplanes...... Well, someone has to do it.
