(For those of you guys that are on :Please post me off line if you have
anything to add to my observations.)
For you sailplaners who have started the Atkins diet after seeing my reduced
airframe and have also lost that 30 to 50lbs this summer, here are some
observations I noticed after losing the weight and then continuing the eating
habits of steak, bacon, cheese, fish, butter, etc.
KEY point to weight loss after being on for almost a year. WATER, when I
stopped carrying a bottle, I stopped losing.
You will get to feeling 'funny' at various times as your metabolism goes thru
adaptions, First 6 weeks especially. Then at about 3months or so.
Don't pay any attention to your 'energy' that changes dramatically till up
to about 6 months. At that point you will feel better and have more 'energy'
than ever before.
You may not make it to your target weight ...without exercize. I haven' t
done any and I also haven't lost that last ten pounds I had been shooting for.
Water is key/critical. Even if you aren't thirsty.
Crystal light is great cold or hot. ALL the flavors!
Pay attention to the part where he talks about 'addiction' food. You may not
realize what it actually is, but in the end find out that you have been
derailed off diet.
If you see a cookie or piece of bread that looks soooo good, and really want
a piece, and considering you haven't had your alotment of carbs for the day,
DON"T TAKE A WHOLE PIECE. Just break off a small piece about a finger tip
full and put it in your mouth to test its "real flavor satifaction level" .
Usually you find that it was your minds romantic memory of what it might
taste like and in reality find that it taste pretty blah and not worth
ingesting. That trick kills a crave instantly.
If it turns out to taste just as sexy as you thought it would THEN have a
small portion, you can always have more. The point is.....chose your poisons
carefully:-)
People will ask you about it or kid you about how its impossible to stay on
the diet and they are right. None of us are disciplined enough to stay on a
'diet'. but with Atkins it switches from a diet to a lifes habit after that 3
to 6 months. So when people say to me am I on the diet, I say no and yes.
I don't eat the things that have the killer carbs, and if I do I know its a
small count for the day.
Water is key.
now back to sanding those Zipper leading edges, the motel is gonna freak
about the dust :-)
