Ron, when you close the mold, use glass fiber tow in the LE of the rudder. Lay it from the rear mold opening. It will reinforce the fin and bound the two halves better than a tape. I use chopped fiber mixed with the Carbosil, to avoid cracks after some time. Mix equivalent quantities of glass and silica to a mayonnaise consistency, and let it start to gel before you put the cloth. Be careful to avoid bubbles when you put this paste, as the air will not escape through. A final comment, try a layer of cloth on the bias, at the rear cone, to improve torsional strength. Regards. I am proud to announce that my first molded fiberglass fuselage as been born:) It's 50" long w/out rudder and weighs 12ozs. (nosecone included). There are 3/4" wing fillets for a 10" SD7080 airfoil. The all glass layup is 2oz satin all over, 1" x 46" 4oz S-glass, 3.1oz satin weave all over, 3.1oz nose to mid rudder, 3.1oz nose to 3" aft of TE. The deep fillets required double layers in the root area. Gotta a couple of ideas for the next one I wanted to bounce off you. The LE of the fin at the root seems flimsy. There are 2 layers of 3 oz and a layer of 2 oz at this place. I'm thinking of some 4 oz. S-glass running up the fin LE about 4". The other thing is how much cabosil do you mix in? My table spoon full of cabosil weighs 0.7gm. I use two of these in a 4oz batch of epoxy. Is that too thin? I want the glue to keep the glass against the mold better.
